Technical & Advisory Meeting for Leaders of Africa Centers of Excellence: A Recap

The Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence Project (ACE II) held its biannual Technical and Advisory Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting (see program) brought together leaders of the 24 Africa Centers of Excellence (ACEs) from the eight countries hosting the project to network, seek solutions to emerging challenges and plan innovative strategies to achieve project objectives.
Day One looked at the progress and program overview by the World Bank. The ACEs presented key developments, issues and challenges faced. The meeting also discussed financial management and Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs), Procurement, and Management of Partnerships. Two Centers, African Railway Education & Research Institute and African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things, shared their experiences.
The second and final day of the meeting had presentations of results from a pilot study on benchmarking. Participants looked at graduate tracer studies and how to design surveys to capture labor market information on graduates. Prof. Rita from the University of Illinois presented on curriculum development for PhD and Master programs. There were thematic group discussions on Agriculture, Health, Applied Statistics and Industry. Presentations from the two days can be found here.
