The Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), an institution of the East African Community (EAC) responsible for higher education and research today welcomed the Secretary General, Hon. Peter Mathuki to the IUCEA Secretariat at Kyambogo, Kampala. Dr. Mathuki who assumed office on April 25, 2021 is currently on a familiarization tour of EAC institutions in Uganda.
He was welcomed by IUCEA staff led by the Executive Secretary, Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona. “Under your leadership our beloved EAC will strive ahead. I assure you of the support of IUCEA,” said Prof. Banyankimbona.
Hon. Mathuki called on staff to be committed, to work hard and to show results.
“I count on each one of you whatever role you are playing to give maximum cooperation to this institution and to the Community so that when we speak out, we speak out on your behalf with confidence. When we meet with the Heads of State and look at the bigger picture, I can confidently tell them that our team is working well,” he said.
Hon. Mathuki was accompanied by Hon. Christophe Bazivamo – Deputy Secretary General for Productive and Social Sectors; Rt. Hon. Ngoga Martin – Speaker for the East African Legislative Assembly; Kenneth Bagamuhunda – Director General Customs and Trade; Ruth Simba – Director Human Resources, among others.
Uganda hosts four institutions of the East African Community including the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA), East African Development Bank (EADB), Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation (LVFO), and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA).
