TACE Empowering Women and Youth in Agribusiness Through Finance Access

The Technology and Agribusiness Center of Excellence (TACE), through its Agribiz Hub, is partnering with the Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) to implement the project Catalyzing Women and Youth Empowerment and Resilience in Agriculture through Access to Appropriate Finance.

The program supports women and youth-led agribusinesses through TACE’s incubation program, offering entrepreneurial training, technical mentorship, financial literacy, and market readiness assistance. A revolving loan facility provides growth capital to high-potential SMEs graduating from the program.

In May, participants received training on improving product quality, accessing new markets, and securing financial support. AGRA Malawi’s Director of Programs, Mr. Valentine Lihesuwa and the Head of Programs for Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) project, a collaboration between AGRA and the Mastercard Foundation, Ms. Catherine Rusagara, emphasised the importance of business planning, teamwork, and consistency.

Catherine Rusagara advised, “Use grants to build and drive your trade and business. Grants alone won’t provide the consistent income and development you seek. What drives change is building a sustainable business. Don’t become ‘granter-preneurs.’ Work together, share knowledge, and support each other – there is strength in numbers.”

Mr. Lihesuwa added, “To secure funding and grants, you need a solid, clear, and coherent business plan. Track your income and necessities, and grants won’t be an issue.” He also encouraged participants involved in poultry, beekeeping, and horticulture to connect with AGRA’s executive team for support in these value chains.
